Help us to expand our offering
We want to be there before it’s too late
Recent statistics have shown that every year, over a million women in the UK experience domestic abuse. With only around 10,000 refuge bed spaces available, thousands of women are left with nowhere to go.
Our refuge provides emergency, short-term accommodation to women and their children fleeing from domestic abuse – an essential service that offers a lifeline to those crisis.
But we also want to be part of the solution, offering our expert support to those experiencing abuse, helping to prevent them from reaching crisis point.

Gilgal’s drop-in sessions
We are calling these Trusted Community Contact Points – drop-in sessions located in spaces where women feel safe seeking support, such as GP surgeries, places of worship, mental health clinics, and community centres. Qualified members of the Gilgal team are on hand in each session to offer free, confidential support on a variety of concerns, including housing, physical and mental health, and the Freedom Programme.
The casual nature of our drop-in sessions opens up our support to the wider community, offering a way to access information and guidance in a friendly and commitment-free manner.
Could your place of work be a Trusted Community Contact Point?
We have seen very positive results and feedback from our first two contact points, and so are looking to expand this offering further.
How you could help:
- Hosting a regular drop-in session
- Promoting our existing sessions by displaying leaflets and posters
- Referring clients / patients / service users to our drop-in sessions for specialised support
To get involved, please contact us on [email protected] to discuss in further detail.
We can’t do it alone!
Help us keep offering our vital services
All of our Support Workers are entirely funded by the generosity of our donors – both for the work they do within our refuge, and in the community. Every donation could help us change a life.
